Laphroaig Quarter Cask is a distinctive core range expression from the Islay distillery, Laphroaig, offering a unique twist on their classic smoky style. This non-age-stated single malt undergoes a double maturation process: initially aged in standard ex-bourbon barrels, it’s then transferred to smaller ‘quarter casks’ for a second maturation. This significantly increases the spirit-to-wood contact, accelerating the development of flavors. Bottled non-chill filtered at a higher strength of 48% ABV, Quarter Cask delivers an intense Laphroaig experience where the signature peat smoke is amplified by rich notes of vanilla, coconut, spice, and a noticeably creamy texture.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense peat smoke (bonfire embers, medicinal notes) combined with pronounced sweetness – vanilla, coconut cream, toffee – richer than the standard 10 Year Old. Hints of citrus or green apple underneath.
• Palate: Full-bodied, powerful, and creamy. Waves of peat smoke and ash are met with intense vanilla sweetness, coconut, butterscotch, and warming oak spice (cinnamon, pepper). The higher ABV and non-chill filtration contribute to its punchy delivery and velvety mouthfeel.
• Finish: Long, warming, and complex. Lingering notes of peat smoke, glowing embers, sweet vanilla, toasted coconut, spice, and a final salty tang.
