About Cline Family Cellars
Cline Family Cellars. Sustainably farmed. Family-owned. Wines raised in the Sonoma heartland. Classics Our Cline Classic wines showcase the best that California terroir has to offer. From our expressive North Coast Viognier and Sauvignon Blanc to our bold yet elegant Zinfandel from Lodi, and our newest addition our Cline Cabernet Sauvignon, we work hard to bring you impressive wines with a sense of place. Seven Ranchlands Our parents were busy raising seven children and farming our seven vineyard ranches. This collection honors their hard work and the diverse terroirs of each ranch that influence the wines. The collection includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Merlot, Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc and are meant to be paired with food, family and friends. Heritage Collection Our roots run deep. Our Heritage Collection pays tribute our dad’s love of Rhone-style wines and Zinfandels. These wines come from our 100-year-old vineyards in Oakley. While yields are smaller, wines are richly aromatic and intensely flavored. Sonoma AVA Series We introduced these wines to celebrate our Sonoma roots. This series showcases varietals from the best growing regions in Sonoma County. We sought out multi-generation family growers who are liked-minded and align with our same respect for the land. Single Vineyards Our Single Vineyards collection showcases the best from our family’s vineyards. From Oakley to Sonoma, we harvested from the finest vineyard blocks to showcase a pure expression of each site’s terroir. This collection represents our very best small-lot wines. Gust Gust is the second-generation offshoot of Cline Family Cellars, the brainchild of Megan Cline, Hilary Cline and Tom Gendall. The project was launched to tap the potential of the Petaluma Gap appellation, recognized for superb Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. Farmhouse Farmhouse was born out of the desire to not only create clean, herbicide and chemical-free wines but also to teach future generations about what it means to farm with nature, not against it.
California Wines
California wine production has a rich viticulture history since 1680 when Spanish Jesuit missionaries planted Vitis vinifera vines native to the Mediterranean region in their established missions to produce wine for religious services. In the 1770s, Spanish missionaries continued the practice under the direction of the Father Junípero Serra planted California’s first vineyard at Mission San Juan Capistrano.
The state produces about ninety percent of the American wine supply and is the fourth largest wine producer among the world’s independent nations. It has more than 1,200 wineries ranging from home-grown and small boutiques to large corporations with international distribution.
Grapes are sourced throughout the esteemed North Coast. Hailing predominately from Potter Valley in Mendocino County, great day-night temperature variations separate Potter Valley from other growing areas in Mendocino. Mid-day in this inland valley can be truly hot, but nighttime temperatures plummet. Under such conditions Pinot Noir flourishes, developing strong, but refined character. We also source small amounts from Redwood Valley, Lake County and the Petaluma Gap in Sonoma to make a vibrant and characteristic Pinot Noir.
FERMENTATION & AGING
Grapes were hand-harvested and 100% destemmed to soften tannins. The grapes were transferred to tank as whole berries. The wine naturally began fermentation and temperatures were capped at 90ºF. A mixture of cap management practices were utilized to extract flavor and eliminate bitter elements. Skin contact averaged 14 days, and then free-run was separated from the press fraction. The wine was inoculated with malolactic bacteria, which enhances balance and roundness, and then transferred to 40% French, American and Hungarian oak barrels for 10 months before blending and bottling.
