Lagavulin 8 Year Old is an Islay single malt released initially to celebrate the distillery’s 200th anniversary, inspired by Alfred Barnard’s praise of an 8-year-old Lagavulin in the late 1880s. Now part of the core range, it’s matured primarily in refill European and American oak casks and bottled at a robust 48% ABV. It offers a powerful, intense, and relatively bright expression of Lagavulin’s signature peat smoke character compared to older bottlings.

Tasting Notes:

• Nose: Intense and clean peat smoke (bonfire, tar), maritime sea salt, black pepper, with hints of fresh lemon zest and perhaps faint milk chocolate.
• Palate: Full-bodied and powerful Lagavulin peat smoke dominates, balanced by warming black pepper spice, charred notes, underlying sweetness (vanilla, maybe dark mint chocolate), and a zesty citrus edge. Oily texture.
• Finish: Long, smoky, and warming, often with a clean dryness and lingering notes of spice and subtle mint.
